Overview
Divya Desams are the 108 Vishnu temples glorified in the poems of the 12 Alwar saints of Tamil Vaishnavism (6th-9th century CE). 'Divya' means divine, and 'Desam' means place. These temples span India (105 in India, 1 in Nepal) and 2 are celestial abodes. The collection of hymns praising these temples is called the Nalayira Divya Prabandham.

Visiting all 108 Divya Desams is a cherished goal for Vaishnavites. Each temple has unique forms of Vishnu with different names. The Alwar saints' poems are still recited in these temples. Vaikunta Ekadashi is the most important festival.
