పక్షం (Paksha)
The lunar fortnight - bright (Shukla) or dark (Krishna)
Overview
Paksha divides the lunar month into two halves. Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) runs from new moon to full moon when the moon is waxing. Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) runs from full moon to new moon when the moon is waning. Many religious observances and festivals are tied to specific tithis within a paksha.
